Leadership Development Workshops 2023 - 2024

The 2023- 24 programme of Leadership Development Workshops offers Senior Leaders and staff  the opportunity to hear from nationally recognised speakers on topics of current interest such as well-being, staff development, inspired learning and effective leadership.

These subjects and speakers are suggested by Buckinghamshire Headteachers and are appropriate for all members of SLT. There is also the opportunity to network with colleagues at face-to-face events from primary, secondary and special schools.

Members of the BASL Board, experienced Headteachers in Bucks, alongside members of the School Improvement Team will also attend each event.

Friday 10th May, 9.30 – 12.00 Unleashing Great Teaching with David Weston

David is the founder and Chief Executive of the Teacher Development Trust. He is Chair of the Department for Education’s Teachers’ Professional Development Expert Group and, alongside Bridget Clay, wrote Unleashing Great Teaching: the secrets to the most effective teacher development. In this session you will:

  • Discover the secrets to the most effective teacher development​
  • Take the guesswork out of professional learning​
  • Build a self-improving culture

Friday 29th September 9.30 – 12.00 Lightbulb Moments:

Georgina Jones: an award-winning coach, author, TEDx speaker and motivational powerhouse. She has helped thousands of people to understand themselves improving their happiness, health and spreading kindness in the world.  Georgina leaves audiences energised and armed with a toolkit to live a happier and healthier life. Georgina is also passionate about inspiring dyslexic students as she is also dyslexic.

Georgina will focus her presentation on the concept of "Lightbulb Moments”. This presents an exceptional opportunity, not only for you but also for members of your Senior Leadership Team (SLT), to allocate time for prioritising  your well-being, aligning with the expectations of primary, special, and secondary schools.

 

Wednesday 8th November 9.30 – 3.30 – Aspiring Leader Conference

Floyd Woodrow: Inspirational, motivational and challenging education speaker, CPD trainer and conference keynote on leadership, values, achievement and aspirations.

Matthew Burton: a teacher who won the hearts of the nation on the hit Channel 4 documentary TV show, Educating Yorkshire. A genuine individual's passion for teaching is infectious. 

This event is designed to support members of SLT in schools that are thinking of becoming a Headteacher in the next few years. This is an opportunity to hear from inspirational speakers and also to network with Buckinghamshire colleagues.

 

Friday 1st December 9.30 – 12.00 - Navigating Challenging Conversations with Parents and Colleagues:

Tom Packer from Dragonfly Training will discuss ways of dealing with those difficult situations and conversations that often arise with parents.

Tom taught for over 35 years in a variety of settings:  Maintained and Independent Schools, Secondary (11 – 19) and all-through (3 – 19) Schools, Day and Boarding, Boys’, Girls’ and Co-educational. He has a wealth of wisdom to share.


Friday 26th January 9.30 – 12.00 – New Year Reset:

Adrian Bethune: Adrian is the founder of Teachappy and has been teaching happiness and wellbeing to primary school children and teachers since 2010.

His passion is for children and teachers' mental health and wellbeing that’s comes from his own experience of suffering poor mental health after he had graduated. Adrian learned that there is nothing more important than your emotional wellbeing. On his road to recovery, he discovered the 'science of happiness', based on thousands of empirical studies, showing us simple evidence-based things we can do to look after our physical and mental health. In 2017, he set up Teachappy to share that knowledge with others, so we can all lead healthier, happier lives in and outside of school.
