Dear all,

Welcome to our weekly newsletter. We hope you’ve had a good week.

Enjoy the long weekend!

CYP Therapies

We are really pleased to be welcoming the Summer term in and continuing to work with children and young people, schools and families. Each of our therapies, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy continue to use the same framework to risk assess as to whether a session with a child or young person should take place remotely or face to face. Face to face delivery will be carried out where this is clinically necessary and therapy staff will wear PPE. Where the outcomes for a particular session can be achieved via remote means then remote delivery will be used. Our staff continue to carry out lateral flow tests twice a week to ensure everyone is keeping safe.

School advice clinics for OT and SALT: SALT school advice sessions continue to be delivered and information on how to book can be found here: https://slt.buckshealth.link/schools-early-years/schools-2/

Our new style OT school advice clinics will launch after half term and we look forward to sharing details around these over the next few weeks. In the meantime please do call the service on 01296 566045 if you require OT advice.

Speechlink: FREE intervention for ALL Year 5 and Year 6 pupils for Infant Language Link subscribers

We know that most children in the school have been affected by lockdown in many ways but it is particularly difficult for Year 6 children preparing for the move to secondary school. From Tuesday 20th April, Speechlink will be opening a free Junior Language Link intervention for ALL current Infant Language Link subscribers to use with their older children in the summer term. The Language for Assessment intervention will be available to all schools regardless of whether they already subscribe to Junior Language Link. It will sit under a tab within the Infant Language Link package.

Normally this would be recommended for groups of Years 5 and 6 children with speech, language and communication needs but Speechlink’s advice this year is to work with ALL Year 5 and Year 6 classes, as it is a great educational entertainment for the 10 and 11 year olds to complete in their summer term! This group is aimed at improving the children’s understanding of complex question forms and verbal reasoning skills. The children go through detective training to help them solve the mystery of the Missing Mayan Mask, to be played over 8 sessions. The SLTs at Speechlink have made a video and an advice sheet to guide school users on how to use the group. Any schools that don’t already have Junior Language Link are welcome to sign up for a free 2 week trial to sample the standardised assessment and an overview of the other interventions. Any queries please contact the Speechlink helpdesk at office2@speechlink.co.uk or phone 0333 5770784.

Other important news

An EP with a wealth of experience has joined our Wycombe iSEND team. Welcome to Isabel Gregory who will be working at Bucks two days a week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Her arrival has helped us expand the flexibility of our current Solution Circles Local Offer. Participation in this group consultation is useful in its’ own right and also as part of the evidence base for the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle of intervention. As result of the limited Thursday timings, participation has been varied and difficult for some due to commitments or part-time working. We are now going to do a  ‘trial and improvement’ format by offering a flexible range of days and times. Please make the valuable EP time committed to this well researched pre-emptive intervention. If you need to swap a group to allow participation, please email me.

We have also amalgamated the Network Groups into three to accommodate these three days.

These are:

Tuesday:      3:40pm (Dr Nick Jarrett)

Wednesday: 10:00am (Dr Isobel Gregory)

Thursday:     9:30am (Dr Ann-Marie Faughey)
