FREE intervention for ALL Year 5 and Year 6 pupils for Infant Language Link subscribers

We know that most children in the school have been affected by lockdown in many ways but it is particularly difficult for Year 6 children preparing for the move to secondary school. From Tuesday 20th April, Speechlink will be opening a free Junior Language Link intervention for ALL current Infant Language Link subscribers to use with their older children in the summer term. The Language for Assessment intervention will be available to all schools regardless of whether they already subscribe to Junior Language Link. It will sit under a tab within the Infant Language Link package.

Normally this would be recommended for groups of Years 5 and 6 children with speech, language and communication needs but Speechlink’s advice this year is to work with ALL Year 5 and Year 6 classes, as it is a great educational entertainment for the 10 and 11 year olds to complete in their summer term! This group is aimed at improving the children’s understanding of complex question forms and verbal reasoning skills. The children go through detective training to help them solve the mystery of the Missing Mayan Mask, to be played over 8 sessions. The SLTs at Speechlink have made a video and an advice sheet to guide school users on how to use the group. Any schools that don’t already have Junior Language Link are welcome to sign up for a free 2 week trial to sample the standardised assessment and an overview of the other interventions. Any queries please contact the Speechlink helpdesk at or phone 0333 5770784.

Our Send Improvement Survey is now live!

This is part of the work we are doing regarding Preparation for Adulthood and we want as many young people with SEND to give us their views

Please can you circulate around to any SEND young people you work with or their support workers. This can be completed by anyone aged  12- 25 years, they will be routed to the questions relevant to their age group.

Currently there is no easy read version however  we  are looking at ways of getting one .  If anyone does need easy read then they can contact  and she  will sort out a printed easy read version for you.

This is quite a good activity to do as part of PHSE and Emily has already visited a number of schools to explain what it is.

Shout out for SEND – Save the date !

Shout out for SEND is  a children and young person’s conference which we run annually. It helps us to really find out what children and young people think of our service and what we can do to  make it better .  We have agreed the  13th October, and  we will give you more information nearer the time. The conference runs for the day , again this can support PHSE and other aspects of the curriculum.
