Specialist teachers

Specialist teachers promote the successful inclusion and progress of children and young people with SEND to achieve their personal best, working in partnership with schools, parents and other agencies.

They offers assistance to schools in meeting the needs of pupils who are experiencing a greater difficulty than their peers in accessing the Early Years and National Curriculum. These difficulties may be of a long or short term nature and could involve learning, sensory, language or physical difficulties.

Specialist teachers are organised into service areas as reflected in the SEND Code of Practice 0-25 years 2014.

The service areas are:

  • Communication and Interaction
  • Sensory and Physical
  • Cognition and Learning

Our aims are:

  • To promote the successful progress of children and young people, by working in partnership with schools, settings, parents and other agencies.
  • To promote an inclusive approach which will reinforce a commitment in schools and settings to raise achievement for all pupils.
