Local Area SEND Improvement Work
In Buckinghamshire we are ambitious to continuously improve the support we provide to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families.
Local area SEND strategy
The SEND and Inclusion Strategy reflects our high aspirations, setting out our key priorities and the steps we are taking to achieve our goals. Critically, the strategy is delivered through organisations working collaboratively and efficiently towards a set of shared goals.
Local area Self Evaluation Framework (SEF) 0 to 25
Buckinghamshire’s SEF provides an overview of the work that is being delivered across the Local Area including key areas of strength and areas of development. It is broken down into 4 main themes:
- Strategic development and partnership
- Identification of children and young people with SEND
- Assessments and meeting the needs of children and young people with SEND
- Improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND
Local area SEND inspection
How Ofsted work with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to find out how well young people’s special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are being met in the area where they live.
Shout Out for SEND Conference 2022
In November 2022 we invited pupils with SEND from years 7 to 9 to join us for our annual Shout Out for SEND Conference.
The event focussed on the question, “What does inclusion look like?”. Through a combination of workshops and activities the young people told us of their experiences in school and social settings and the barriers they face and what we can do to help overcome them.
Local area SEND improvement plan
The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Improvement Plan aims to fulfil the ambitions of the SEND and Inclusion Strategy 2021 to 2023.
It is a multi-agency plan, owned by the Local Area that provides a framework against which to monitor progress and improvement.
Specialist teaching consultation
The Specialist Teaching consultation closed on 9 January 2022.
All the responses are captured in the Consultation Outcome Report.
Given the mixed response to the proposal, we'll be delaying any changes until September 2023.
This delay will enable us to further consider the proposal in light of the feedback received. This will ensure we can be confident that any changes meet the needs of children and families.
The new approach will be communicated to families and schools/settings once this work is completed and decisions have been taken. It is anticipated this will be in Autumn 2022.
