Maintained Schools, Academies, Free Schools, Pupil Referral Units, Independent Schools, Non Maintained Special Schools

Background

 

Governing bodies are responsible for ensuring that admissions (and attendance) registers are maintained, but the register itself can be kept by appropriate school staff.  A pupil is placed on the admission register on the first day he/she is expected to attend.  Attendance and absence data is collected from the registers via the School Census. (Applies to all schools except in the case of a school of which all the pupils are boarders)

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006: (SI 2006/1751) as subsequently amended: The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 and The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013.
