Recruitment and New Governors

The local authority provides support to governing boards in recruiting governors with the right range of skills to meet their school’s needs, and who reflect the diversity of the community their school serves. Listed below are some of the ways we may be able to help you.

Governor Volunteers

The local authority can sometimes put governing boards in touch with potential volunteers who have expressed an interest in becoming a governor and have completed application forms. Information regarding these volunteers is available on request to schools trying to fill Co-opted and Authority Governor vacancies. 

Recruitment Box

The local authority has put together a Recruitment Box which is available for schools or other community organisations to borrow, to help with governor recruitment.

The box contains:

  • Brochures,

  • FAQ sheets,

  • Posters and a large pull-up banner,

  • Teachers' TV DVD: Know your Role for new Governors,

  • National Governors' Association booklet: 'Governors: Who they are and what they do',

  • NGA 'Welcome to Governance' guide,

  • SGOSS Governors for Schools recruitment booklets,

  • Copies of Governor Times and NGA Governing Matters magazines,

  • Governor Development course programme ... and more!
