COVID-19 Transition Support

Research suggests that a large proportion of children and young people can find the transition between schools, and between year groups within the same school, an unsettling and stressful experience. It is likely that many pupils will experience similar feelings when they return to settings following the closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic – especially those who are vulnerable, or who have special educational needs and disabilities.

The Educational Psychology Team have produced an information pack is to provide advice regarding how schools and families can support children and young people in managing this transition back to school. It is based around an understanding that all pupils will benefit from some support, and that some pupils will require further targeted intervention. The intention is to provide a range of ideas to consider, rather than being an exhaustive ‘to do’ list for staff and parents/carers.
