Obtaining cleaning materials

You will already recognise that there are national shortages and the local authority is unable to directly influence this. No doubt school leaders are already liaising with peers to pool resources wherever this is possible.

What Buckinghamshire Council has negotiated is that schools are able to order with Lyreco for cleaning, hygiene and PPE supplies. Naturally, all suppliers are subject to demand on stock. However, this is a supplier that our Finance and Procurement teams have identified that schools generally do not use already, and so affords schools another avenue for sourcing vital supplies. This is simply an option we are putting forward and it is entirely up to you if you wish to pursue it. Of note, schools need not spend time negotiating discounts with Lyreco, we have arranged for you to have the Buckinghamshire Council discount applied.

You would need to provide the following information to get an account set up:

 Schools can be set up billed to the delivery point either by invoice OR purchase card

  • Full name of school
  • Contact name and telephone number
  • Full delivery address
  • Email address for ordering online – PREFERRED ROUTE due to current circumstances for real time stock levels and reduced staff in Telford

The DfE response to cleaning materials shortages

The DfE has been working with public sector buying organisations, and with Crown Commercial Service, to understand and address supply chain issues relating to hygiene and cleaning products for state-funded provision.

At this time, the supply chain has flagged that for some products there are reduced volume deliveries, and less frequent deliveries, which means some items may be rationed. They are seeking to find alternatives to any products which are out of stock.

Should schools be short of cleaning product supplies, the DfE have asked that they  email DfE-CovidEnquiries.COMMERCIAL@education.gov.uk, providing details of the supplies they are short of, and where they have been trying to buy their supplies (for example, which supplier).

Will schools that are likely to close be able to lend cleaning products?

Yes – schools have offered their support. We would encourage Headteachers to contact other schools in their locality in the first instance.
