Trauma and the impact on child development

This session will introduce the topic of trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and how these impact on child development.

The session will look at how all aspects of daily living and the ability to learn can be affected by trauma.  It will also provide guidance on what good practice may look like in a trauma informed school.

Outcomes:

  • Gain an understanding of the nature of trauma
  • Understand how trauma impacts all aspects of child development including emotional and social development and cognitive processes.
  • Identify what support may look like in a trauma informed school.
  • Consider what support the adults around a child that has experienced trauma may require to enable them to have the capacity to support the child.
