The central purpose of the Specialist Teaching Service is to promote the successful inclusion and progress of children and young people with SEND to achieve their personal best, working in partnership with schools, parents and other agencies.

The Specialist Teaching Service offers assistance to schools in meeting the needs of pupils who are experiencing a greater difficulty than their peers in accessing the Early Years and National Curriculum. These difficulties may be of a long or short term nature and could involve learning, sensory, language or physical difficulties.

The Specialist Teaching Service is organised into service areas as reflected in the SEND Code of Practice 0-25 years 2014.
