Down Syndrome Support Team

The primary aim of the team is to promote the successful inclusion and progress of children and young people with Down syndrome to achieve their personal best, working in partnership with schools, colleges, preschool settings, parents and other agencies.

We can provide support as needed, which may include:

  • assessment of educational needs
  • classroom observations to inform inclusive practice
  • monitoring progress
  • advice on managing the learning environment
  • support to ensure access to the National Curriculum
  • working with the child or young person as appropriate
  • advice and support at school transfer
  • training for school and setting-based staff and other professionals
  • advice on educational implications of Down syndrome
  • input into SEND plans and MAPPs
  • contribution to Annual Review, Review meetings and multi-professional meetings
  • liaison with other professional services and agencies
  • liaison with parents/carers individually or in group meetings
  • support with home-school liaison
  • loan of equipment and resources
  • written assessment reports as appropriate
  • advice on the use and maintenance of specialist equipment and materials
