Who are we?

The Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Education Team is a countywide service offered to support education settings, parents and children from the Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities.

The GRT Education Team works with schools and families to improve school attendance, parental engagement, safeguarding support, cultural awareness training and guidance and supports the attainment and outcomes of children from the GRT community.

We work directly with parents to support their understanding of their responsibilities for making sure their children can access education, and with children who are struggling in their education setting.

We also support multi-agency working and work closely with all agencies involved with children and families.

What are our aims?

• To ensure that young people access the education they are entitled to dependent on their needs.
• To support schools, families, and colleagues to improve school attendance and outcomes for children.
• To support colleagues across all agencies involved with a GRT family where our involvement is necessary and provide cultural support and guidance.
• To support the safeguarding of children and young people.
